The basics

What is e-invoicing in the UAE?

UAE e-invoicing is a new system in which invoices between businesses, and between businesses and government, are issued and received as structured electronic data instead of PDFs or paper. Both the business issuing the invoice and the business receiving it must appoint an Accredited Service Provider (ASP), which exchanges the invoice data on their behalf.

The rules were set by Ministerial Decisions No. 243 and No. 244 of 2025. They apply in phases, starting with the largest businesses, and businesses can join voluntarily from 1 July 2026.

For most businesses the real work is not the technology. It is making sure the data behind every invoice, from customer TRNs to VAT treatment, is complete and correct before the system goes live.

Zoho Books

E-invoicing with Zoho Books

Zoho is on the Ministry of Finance list of accredited e-invoicing service providers, as Zoho Software Trading LLC. That means a business already using Zoho Books can appoint Zoho as its ASP and send and receive e-invoices from the system it uses every day, instead of adding a separate platform.

Appointing an ASP is only part of the job. Your Zoho Books account has to be prepared before it can exchange e-invoices correctly. As an authorised Zoho partner and an accounting and tax firm, Alif does that work for you:

  • Updating the invoice fields e-invoicing requires
  • Updating customer, supplier and item data, including TRNs
  • Configuring the e-invoicing integration settings in Zoho Books
  • Checking that the VAT treatment on each invoice is right before go-live
